Your starting point

Use the Ambient piano sample. For your own material, choose Change sound, then Record or Upload. Files stay in your browser.

    Hear the starting point

    Press Play, then choose Original. Listen for the piano attacks and the time between them.

    Change the pace

    Choose With effect and move left on the pad. Slower playback lowers the pitch as well as the speed. Use Fine controls if you want to set Playback speed precisely.

  3. 03

    Add some room

    Move up to add reverb. Compare Original again. Try leaving enough of the piano attack that you can still hear the phrase clearly.

    Build around it

    Download effect WAV and import it in Audio Lab to keep editing the recording. To add musical parts, open the processed sound in Studio. Its project tempo accounts for the playback-speed change. Add a drum part and hear what the new pace suggests.

What to listen for

More reverb can blur a busy phrase. Compare a slower, drier version with a faster, wetter one. Both use the same recording, but they leave different space for a second instrument.

One more thing to try

Record a few notes or a short voice sound and try the same comparison. Use only audio you have permission to use.
