ONE IDEA, THEN ONE MORE THING · 02
One extra hi-hat hit.
Hear how hit count and rotation change a groove, then give it a bass line.

Your starting point
Use 16 steps, 5 low hits, 3 high hits, rotation 0, and 100 BPM. The low voice is a kick and the high voice is a closed hi-hat.
- 01
Follow the kick
Press Play rhythm and let the pattern repeat. Count the low hits first, then listen to how the hi-hat falls between them.
- 02
Add one high hit
Change High hits from 3 to 4. The tool spaces the hits evenly across the same cycle. You get a new relationship between the two parts without changing the tempo.
- 03
Turn the pattern
Move Turn the high rhythm one step at a time. Stop on a version you like. Rotation changes where the hat lands relative to the kick, while keeping its hit count.
- 04
Put a bass underneath
Choose Build on this beat in Melodic Studio. The kick and hi-hat arrive as separate editable parts. Add the suggested bass line from the next-step panel, then Hear them together.
What to listen for
At 16 steps, the rhythm lasts four beats. Four high hits give a steady pulse while the five kick hits push against it. Try returning to three high hits before transferring and compare the feel.
One more thing to try
Move one bass note or shorten it in the editor. Hear whether it works better with a kick hit or in the space between hits.
