ONE IDEA, THEN ONE MORE THING · 01
Draw a melody. Give it a beat.
Make an eight-beat phrase, leave some space, then add a drum part in Studio.
Open Draw a little musicFree to try. No account needed for the tool.
Your starting point
Start with the wave drawing in C at 100 BPM. It lasts eight beats. Loop drawing is already on.
- 01
Hear what is there
Press Hear my drawing. Let the whole phrase play once. The line is a sequence of notes: left to right is time, higher up is a higher pitch.
- 02
Leave a gap
Choose Erase and remove two notes near the end. Listen on the next loop. The pause gives the ending a little room. Undo the stroke if you prefer the first version.
- 03
Change the answer
Choose Draw and paint a short, lower ending. Keep the beginning so you can hear how the new ending answers it. All the notes stay in the selected pentatonic scale.
- 04
Give it a beat
Choose Add a beat in Melodic Studio. The editable melody opens in a new local project at the same tempo. In the next-step panel, add the drum part and press Hear them together. You can undo the addition or edit its notes.
Hear it with a beat.
This melody started as a drawing. Play it, then switch the drums on and off.
Try this with your own drawingWhat to listen for
The collection’s playable example uses this exact starting drawing and tempo. The second version adds a kick and hi-hat; the melody itself stays the same. Try erasing notes in your version and listen for where the drums now have more space.
One more thing to try
Open the drum clip to change a hit, or edit the melody’s ending again. Keep the project on this device and come back to it from Studio’s project list.
